Hand Spinning in 4 Mornings

New product

Join us at Vowley Farm, Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, for four mornings of woolly fun! We will be starting with a fleece from one of our sheep, and going through the processes to turn it into yarn.

In our courses, we select one sheep whose fleece we will use, and whose personality we can explore through our work. That sheep is the Bellwether, a word which means 'the sheep which leads the flock'. The Bellwether for this course is Betsy, one of our Lleyn ewes. Lleyn have excellent fleeces for beginners, bouncy and inviting, and Betsy will provide us with an abundant quantity of beautiful wool to practice on. We will meet her and get to know her during the course.

The course will run for four Tuesday mornings, 10am-1.30pm. Dates are 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st May 2016.

  • 10th May - Fleece and what to do with it
  • 17th May - Untangling: carding and combing
  • 24th May - Spinning A Yarn
  • 31st May - Double Time: plying your yarn and finishing it

Materials and tools will be provided. Please bring an apron, wellies and a warm coat. Plentiful tea and cakes are included in the price!
