Turnpike Gradient 4-Ply Yarn

New product

  • 50g ball of our 4-ply yarn, dyed as a gradient.
  • Our gradient colour collection is inspired by ancient roads and trackways in Wiltshire, our home county. A turnpike road (an 18th century toll road) ran through the village where my friend and fellow shepherd Lucy lives. As a child, she used to walk to school along its route, and always looked out for a particular stone in a garden wall along the way. The stone was reddy-orange, and just at the right height for a small child to find. I've created this scarlet, orange and golden yellow colourway in honour of that talisman stone!
  • Our rare breed Cotswold sheep provide the fleece, which is then worsted spun by the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall.
  • I hand dye it using acid dyes.
  • Gradient yarns make intriguing scarves and shawls. You'd need two of these 50g balls to make a pair of socks.
  • Recommended needle size 2.75-3.25mm.
